'Ashu has become a very close friend'

After two months of ups and downs in the Bigg Boss 2 house it was exit time for Diana Hayden. We caught up with the former Miss World just minutes after she stepped out of the house and talked to her about her experiences in the house, her take on Rahul and her much talked about friendship with Ashutosh. Diana whose knowledge of the Hindi language had become a subject a ridicule on the show was very confident even when she faced the Hindi news channels, comfortably answering all the questions thrown at her. So we also decided to give her a small Hindi test at the end of the interview.

Preity Zinta modelled her character in Heroes on her mother

Even as Preity Zinta's character in Samir Karnik's Heroes garners rave reviews it comes as a surprise to know that the role of the brave and dignified war widow is modelled on Preity's mother, Neelu Zinta.

Not only that, once Preity signed on, she worked for days on her character, language and body language with her director Karnik.

Says Preity, "The minute I read the script I knew I wanted to do it. You've no idea how many people discouraged me from doing Heroes. 'Arrey why do you want to play the mother of a growing child?; Tujhko log buddhi kahenge''. But I was adamant. I fell in love with my character. She reminded me of my mother. So many people have told me I look like her, especially in my shaadi ka joda.''

In Heroes, Preity plays a rustic Punjabi woman thrown into a crisis. ''It was easy for me to identify with the Punjabi woman in Heroes whose husband has died in the war. I come from an army background and I know what it is like to lose someone at the battlefront."

Preity unabashedly modelled the war widow's role in Heroes on her own mother. ''I always thought I looked like my father. But as I grow older, I think I've begun to resemble my mom. The other Punjabi woman I play in Heaven On Earth was much harder to play. I had no reference points except my director who held my hand as I suffered with my character for all the physical abuse she has to face."

At 81, Advani connects with youth

As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) braces for assembly and national elections, its prime minister hopeful L K Advani is shedding his Hindu hardliner image to present himself as a moderate leader a la Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Almost suddenly as it were, the man who will be 81 Saturday is attending more and more youth oriented events, some apparently insignificant, regaling the audiences with anecdotes from his eventful political career. (Watch)

The new Advani is funny to the extent of making youngsters roar in laughter.

On Oct 20, after launching Indiabanao.org, to inspire and involve the young in social and political events, Advani narrated how he and Vajpayee watched a movie at Old Delhi's Imperial cinema after being routed in a local election.

"Only when the movie started we realised it was Raj Kapoor's 'Phir Subah Hogi' (It shall dawn once again)," laughed Advani at the irony, addressing hundreds packed in an auditorium in the heart of New Delhi.

MOON MISSION: In this picture Chandrayaan-1 is seen being prepared to launch into space on October 22.

New Delhi: After two weeks of journey India's first unmanned lunar spacecraft Chandrayaan-1 entered the lunar orbit on Saturday evening. It started at 16:50 hrs IST and within 14 minutes, it the entered lunar orbit. It is now 504 km from Moon. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said the most critical operation is successful.

"Twenty minutes before Chandrayaan entered the moon's orbit our heart beats stood still. It's successfully entered the orbit and now we are hoping for the next manoeuvre," said ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair.

"The equipments are working perfectly fine and we have already taken a picture from 31000 km distance to check the equipment," he added.

President Pratibha Patil congratulated ISRO on the success of Chandrayaan-1.

By Tuesday the spacecraft will cruise closer to the moon when it makes the transition from the earth's elliptical orbit into deeper space, a top space agency official said Monday.

Aamir Khan's innovative way to interact with the media for Ghajini

Be it 30 secs commercial or a 3 hour long film, when Aamir Khan does it, he does it differently. This superstar deserves accolades for not just being a talented actor but also a very intelligent marketing personnel when it comes to promoting his films. Just last year we saw how Aamir grabbed everyone's attention with his directorial venture Taare Zameen Par, which had a young kid (Darsheel Safary) as the lead actor and a subject which was never dealt before in Bollywood. Yes, the film did star Aamir but it was also his smart marketing plan that managed to get the film, the great opening and rest is history. Ditto for one of this year's biggest hits Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, which had a complete new cast and crew, but the film created new records and thus made Imran Khan an over night star. One can't deny that the aggressive marketing done by Aamir did the trick.

And now, for his next film, Ghajini, Aamir has (yet again) devised a very smart and creative plan to interact with the media. As we know by now, Aamir has been enjoying blogging on his personal website and has been keeping his fans updated on every new development on his film projects. But now, the 'perfectionist' Khan will be creatively using the internet medium to interact with the media persons. 'Creatively' because the interaction will be based on the theme of Ghajini.

It goes like this. Every media person will be asked to upload their photograph on the website www.rememberghajini.com/media especially designed for Aamir to readily access their photograph. This will help Aamir recall everything about the journalist in a jiffy including their name and other details. Aamir will also write down a personal note that will be part of the journalists' profile. According to Aamir, this would be an interesting exercise since it goes with the theme of my film, Ghajini.
